Finding our first geocache of the trip in Freiburg |
This morning we arrived in Germany after a night spent on another France Passion at Provencheres-sur-Fave, a short way before the Ste. Marie-aux-Mines tunnel in the Vosges region. It was a rather unusual one - we knew from the book that it was a farm, but it looks like the owner has built a new timber house where the parking should be and we were directed up behind the house beside the shed/workshop with views across the hillside. The highland cattle, large woolly sheep and a little dog took a good look at us and were no bother except when one of the sheep escaped from the field during the evening. Fortunately she found her own way back. We had a walk in the nearby forest in the afternoon, getting back to the van just as the rain started.
But the rain didn't stop - not all night, not for our short journey through the tunnel and over the Rhine into Germany and all day today! So we had a very restful afternoon in and only ventured out to do the washing up at the site kitchen. At 7ish it stopped so we had a walk into the town but it's still much colder than we had hoped. We are told that tomorrow will be much better. We booked 3 nights here in advance - just as well as it is pretty full for the Easter weekend.
