Martinshof Schenke

Took Claudia's (Frau Receptionist) recommendation of trip out today.  Cycled in the opposite direction beside the river into Freiburg and to the railway station.  Thousands of bikes already parked outside, but we managed to find a space just big enough for ours, again mastered the art of getting train tickets from the machine and caught the Breisac express.  Not really, it was just 2 packed coaches stopping every couple of minutes!  Got off at Ihringen, a quiet little town surrounded by steep hillsides covered in vines.  Claudia had told us this is the warmest place in Germany and we felt the difference as soon as we got off the train.  A gentle uphill walk took us to our destination - Martinshof Schenke - a delightful rustic restaurant in the middle of nowhere.  Good job we got there by 12.30 as it was already busy and all the tables inside were reserved.  But there was lots of room outside and although we had to wait a while for it, lunch was excellent.  Our friendly waiter helped us with our choices and we already knew that turkey was their speciality.  He invited us to go and see next week's dinners round the back afterwards - lovely looking birds with loads of space to run around.
Back in Freiburg we visited the Munster and admired the wonderful stained glass windows.
Much too good to eat

Just 1 minute away

Some of outside seating and bank that children had fun climbing

  1. Happy Birthday, Ann. We hope you have had a good day.

We have enjoyed your news and pics and have seen reports of the snowstorms in the paper while we are basking in glorious sunshine!
