What a beautiful place to celebrate my birthday! A stunningly beautiful sunny day. We left Freiburg this morning and travelled into Switzerland to Lucerne, arriving when the office at Camping Lido was closed for lunch. However, a sign said that we could find a pitch and report in after 3pm. Once settled on No.2 we set off on the lake-side path towards Lucerne town in search of lunch. Although we needed to keep our coats on and took advantage of the blankets provided for our laps it was so lovely to sit at a beautifully laid table with white tablecloth beside the sparkling lake at Grand Casino Luzern. It sounds as though it must be very posh inside - we didn't go there! But sticking to the meal of the day menu and just a small glass of wine, meant that we could pretend this kind of life was normal for us.
Then another treat - a trip on the lake on one of the boats that hop from place to place. In fact 2 boats because we got off at Weggis, had a quick coffee/hot choc and onto one coming back just 12 minutes later! This was a paddle steamer, so John enjoyed watching the crankshafts turn the paddles which could be seen from a viewing gallery in the centre of the boat.
Add these treats to the cost of one night's camping at the Lido and we realise we can't stay in Switzerland any longer! So tomorrow we will move on into Italy and I'll get back to home cooking again.

Happy birthday Ann! The photos look fabulous. Glad you are enjoying yourselves. We are having a very nice time in a smart apartment in Downderry with an amazing sea view. Had a great day out yesterday with Craig, Demelza and Tilly and sat outside in the sunshine. We're looking forward to Andy and Al arriving on Thursday. Keep on blogging and having fun. Love Carolyn

ReplyDeleteThis post brought back memories of our holiday near Lake Lucerne with Steve and Emma many years ago. We stayed near the top of Mt Riga and our waiter brought us 'cherries from Weggis' served on a bed of ice - the most fantastic. harries we have ever tasted!
